A live-store repaint for Briscoes Christchurch completed in early 2025. Work was carried out while the shop was fully operating and full of stock, with sections completed and cleaned up one at a time, dust control on a scissor lift, and two-cycle shifts to meet a tight deadline.

The Brief
Briscoes engaged us to refresh their Christchurch store, with some work outside and the majority inside. The scope included removing existing shelving, repairing the holes and defects left behind, and giving the store a new look in the new Briscoes colours.
The structural steel beams were painted while the shop was open, reaching up to 5 metres high from a scissor lift. Everything had to be covered with plastic and sheets, with work carried out in sections and then cleaned up before moving on. Cleaning and prep was done with a vacuum running on the scissor lift while sanding, to control dust. The process on the beams was sand, fill, bog, primer, then topcoat.
The main challenge was working in a live shop full of stock and customers. This was managed with spotters, coned-off areas and controls to keep the public out of the work zone. The deadline was tight as Briscoes had everything planned, so two cycle shifts were put on, 7am to 4.30pm and 6pm to 1am, to get the job done on time.
Craftsmanship
The quality of a commercial finish is often measured in the details people barely notice.
Clean cut lines, consistent surfaces and careful work around architectural detailing are what separate a finish that lasts from one that simply looks done. Preparation is where that difference is made, before a single topcoat goes on.
The Result
A refreshed store in the new Briscoes colours, with structural beams painted cleanly from a scissor lift and every section handed back clean and ready to trade, all met against a tight deadline.
