The Brief
The clients had been quoted to respray their roof as they were preparing their house for sale. As an elderly couple, they had been quoted an excessive price and came to us for a fairer assessment. Our goal was to get the roof fresh and ready for sale while genuinely saving the customer money, which we did by around $4,500.
The process was straightforward and done properly: a full waterblast to clean the surface, one primer coat, then two topcoats of Resene roof paint. Resene's roof painting system was used throughout for a durable, clean finish that would present well to prospective buyers.
The main challenge was the location. Up in Westmorland on the Port Hills, it gets windy, so we set up front edge protection while doing the work and rigged a static line with harnesses for the crew's safety. The bottom roof had to be sprayed perfectly, as it was visible from a very large staircase window and would be one of the first things a buyer saw. As with all exterior work, the temperature had to be right for the coatings to go on correctly. The couple were over the moon with the result, and the property is now up for sale.

Clean cut lines, consistent surfaces and careful work around architectural detailing are what separate a finish that lasts from one that simply looks done. Preparation is where that difference is made, before a single topcoat goes on.
